I really enjoyed Steven Soderbergh’s newest film The Informant! (even more than I enjoy the exclamation point in the title). The thing that really made the movie for me was Matt Damon. He is hilarious as the smart, overly ambitious pathological liar Mark Whitacre.
The movie was really pretty funny and it didn’t take itself seriously, which kept the mood light. The music used was this funny kind of circusy music. I like the narration by Whitacre that often had little fun facts that he had picked up from his travels as a businessman.
I find it interesting that Soderbergh often makes films about pathological liars and communication. Perhaps it’s because he was a self-described liar at one point in his life. Anyways, he will continue to be one of my fav directors. Still can’t wait to see Che and The Girlfriend Experience.
Side note: I think I saw Melanie Lynskey on the street next to a swanky sushi place though I couldn’t be sure. She played the wife in this film. I know her best as the nice stepsister from Ever After. Perhaps it wasn’t her since she didn’t respond when I yelled, “HEY, STEPSISTER FROM EVER AFTER!” I’m sure she usually just gets “HEY, TWO AND A HALF MEN LADY!” (she plays Rose on that show).
