I really enjoy movies that I can relate to. Although I never worked in a theme park, I felt I could relate to this one because of my hotel summer job as well as struggling currently working in a min. wage job and desperately searching for another. I liked this story and its characters. Jesse Eisenberg was interesting as the awkward Michael Cera-character type guy (and I’m reeeeally looking forward to his next film, Zombieland, wait, is he only in movies that end in land, oh wait he was in The Village…eww). My favorite characters however were Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig as the owners of Adventureland. Ryan Reynolds and Kristen Stewart were in it too. And they have sex. So that’s always nice.
The park really felt like a real place where real people work. It’s funny that both of director Greg Mottola’s last few movies have both taken place in a previous 80’sish time (he also directed Superbad), as well both been kind of autobiographical (this one was him while Superbad was Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg). I think this is why the film had such a personal feel to it. I really connected. This was definitely preferable to the not-so-good/lame Post Grad as a movie about somebody after they graduate. Cause for most of us, you are more likely to have to work a lame amusement park job than almost have sex with your hot foreign neighbor like in Post Grad, though maybe I’m wrong. I wish I was. I can really feel for a guy who is struggling, as I am struggling like a mofo currently. Can’t seem to get a 2nd job, find a place that will rent to me, barely can buy groceries. Things are bound to turn around though, as they must. There’s a place in Reseda (in the valley) that may rent to me that I’m checking out tomorrow. Also, I think I may have seen the guy who played Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite yesterday. That’s gotta count for something right?
soooooo yeah. Adventureland. Enjoyment.
